Hulu May Bring Back ‘Community’ for More Seasons

Hulu may continue the cult comedy Community after it was cancelled by NBC earlier this month.

Hulu is speaking with Community producer Sony Pictures TV to bring original installments of the series, reported exclusively by Deadline. It is in the beginning stages and it is uncertain if a deal will be made.

Don Harmon, creator of Community, spoke out on his blog that he warmed up to the idea of moving the series to another network. Harmon said, “I’m not going to be the guy that re-cancels cancelled Community.”

The series has devoted fans and it could flourish on digital platforms. Hulu has a digital syndication deal with the series and there is a cable off-network pact with Comedy Central. This digital platform could be the best fit for Community. Hulu has brought on a big expansion when it comes to original programming and Hulu Plus currently has more than 6 million subscribers.

Sony TV has been known to bring back already cancelled series. They made a deal to move critically acclaimed FX drama Damages to DirecTV, brought back Drop Dead Diva Lifetime and Unforgettable on CBS.
