Hulu Gives ‘Locke & Key’ Pilot Order

The Wrap recently reported that the horror-fantasy comic book series Locke & Key has been given a pilot order by Hulu.

The comic series was originally a dual effort between author Joe Hill and artist Gabriel Rodriguez. Joe Hill is an incredibly acclaimed horror writer, from his novels like Heart-Shaped Box, and even Horns, which was developed into a film starring Daniel Radcliffe. Of course, the thrill of writing and horror has been noted to run in his family, considering his father Stephen King is also one of the most famous horror writers of our time.

But Joe Hill has earned fame in his own right, even choosing to go by “Hill” instead of “King,” which would only serve to pigeonhole him. Locke & Key is a successful example of Hill’s prowess for the disturbing. The series tells the story of three siblings who move back to their family home in Maine after the terrible murder of their father. However, their house is not all that it appears to be: the siblings are given keys, which gives them supernatural powers and abilities they’d never had before. And of course, with these gifts comes some dangerous threats, as a demon tries to take the keys so that he may become ultra-powerful.

The upcoming television pilot will be written by Joe Hill, as well as executive produced. Carlton Cuse will pull double-duty as showrunner and executive producer for the project, and Scott Derrickson (of Doctor Strange fame) has already agreed to direct multiple episodes.
