Hulu Gets Streaming Rights to ‘Billy On The Street’

A whole lot more of Billy Eichner is about to be available on Hulu.

Deadline reports that Hulu has snatched up exclusive SVOD rights to truTV’s Billy On The Street, which features comedian Billy Eichner brazenly yelling at New Yorkers and accosting them with bizarre pop-culture questions.

Hulu’s acquisition of SVOD rights to Billy On The Street is the first truTV series licensed to the streaming service. The 42 episodes that make up the first four seasons of the series will debut on Hulu on July 10th. Season five, which is currently in production, will air on truTV first when the new season debuts in the fall. Season five will then be available on Hulu sometime in 2017.

Eichner is often joined by various celebrities for Billy On The Street, which sometimes involves the guest trying desperately to keep up with Eichner as he runs down the street screaming questions at people he passes by. Celebrity guests have included Rashida Jones, Will Ferrell, Zachary Quinto, Maya Rudolph, Olivia Wilde, Neil Patrick Harris, Paul Rudd, Amy Poehler, Nick Offerman, Chris Pratt, Tina Fey, Julianne Moore, Sarah Jessica Parker and frequent guest Rachel Dratch. Eichner is an executive producer on the series alongside Anna Wenger, Doug Brady and Funny or Die CEO Mike Farah. The series is produced by Funny or Die.

Chris Linn, president of truTV, had some very kind words to say about Eichner and the series’ Hulu deal. “As an incredibly popular and creatively-inventive show in truTV’s portfolio, Billy On The Street has cultivated a passionate fan base that actively seeks out the show and embraces Billy’s unique comedic talent and obsession with pop culture. This partnership with Hulu gives us a great opportunity to both super-serve those existing fans and also introduce the show and our network to new audiences.”

Billy On The Street‘s July 10th Hulu debut date does not seem to be coincidental. Eichner co-stars with Julie Klausner on Hulu’s own original comedy series Difficult People, which is set to premiere its second season just two days later on July 12th. Difficult People also stars James Urbaniak, Andrea Martin, Gabourey Sidibe and Cole Escola. Guest stars have included Amy Sedaris, Fred Armisen, Jon Glaser, Seth Meyers, Rachel Dratch, Martin Short, Andy Cohen and Maria Thayer.
