“A lot of you have asked about High Desert and if there was going to be a second season,” Arquette relayed in the short video, “we just found out that it won’t be coming back. That’s a sad bummer for all of us.” According to Deadline, the series premiered on May 17 concluding its season nearly a month later on June 21.

“I loved Peggy and that punk rock world,” Arquette said. “You can’t win ‘em all and it sucks. I’ve got this cactus and we’re going to hug it out.” Arquette starred as Peggy, an addict who renews her life as a local private investigator following the death of her mother. In addition to the Severance star, High Desert featured Rupert Friend (Obi-Wan Kenobi, Homeland), Brad Garrett (Everybody Loves Raymond, Til Death), Weruche Opia (I May Destroy You, …When Love Happens),  and Bernadette Peters (Anastasia, David), via Deadline. Recurring roles belonged to Eden Brolin (Arkansa, Candyland), Matt Dillon (Wild Things, Crash), and Christine Taylor (Hey Dude, The Craft).

According to Deadline, the series was written by co-creators Katie Ford (Little House on the Prairie, Working the Engles), Nancy Fichman (Fortune, The Dead Will Tell), and Jennifer Hoppe (Grace and Frankie, Nurse Jackie). All three served as executive producers along with Arquette. Additional producers included John Cameron (Fargo, Lars and the Girl), Jackie Cohn (In the Dark, Plus One), Tom Lassally (The Lovebirds, Stay), Molly Madden (Picture Perfect, Judas Kiss), Ben Stiller (Severance, Along Came Polly), and Nicky Weinstock (Queenpins, Thanksgiving).
