HBO’s ‘Sharp Objects’ to Open ATX Television Festival

Nearly two years after first announcing its plans for the show, HBO will be premiering its series Sharp Objects at this year’s ATX Television Festival, reports Variety. Based on a novel of the same name by Gillian Flynn (who also wrote the original novel and screenplay to the critically acclaimed drama Gone Girl), Sharp Objects stars Amy Adams, Matt Craven, and Taylor John Smith.

Sharp Objects will be a limited series, with its story playing out over eight episodes. The series follows reporter Camille Preaker (played by Amy Adams) who returns to her old hometown to cover the mysterious murder of two young girls. Taylor John Smith will play the case’s main suspect, John Keene, while Matt Craven will play Vickery, the town’s chief of police.

Rounding out the cast are Patricia Clarkson, Chris Massina, Eliza Scanlen, and Elizabeth Perkins. Sharp Objects is directed by Jean-Marc Vallée, who was the creative force behind one of HBO’s best series of 2017, Big Little Lies. Marti Noxon serves as writer, executive producer, and showrunner on the series.

Sharp Objects has been chosen to open the ATX Television Festival on June 7th. The HBO drama will screen on the festival’s opening night with an accompanying panel afterwards.

While Sharp Objects will screen in June at the festival, HBO has not yet given the series an official television premiere date.
