Watchmen actress Jolie Hoang-Rappaport has joined the cast of their fresh take on their new reboot Head of The Class, as reported by Deadline. Head of The Class was an ABC show that originally aired in 1986 and the plot of the show precisely reflects its title. “It followed group of gifted students at the fictional Millard Fillmore High School in Manhattan and their history teacher Charlie Moore, played by Howard Hesseman,” according to Deadline.
The reboot will add a few changes such as changing the gender of the teacher from male to female and providing the show with a modern backdrop to tackle more current issues that students today may be facing. Their teacher will be played by Isabella Gomez, who is best known for her role as Elena Alverez on CBS’ One Day at A Time. Gomez will be taking on the role of Alicia Adams, a teacher who is inspired to show her students that there is much more to life than their grades. Rappaport’s character will be Makayla Washington, a social media influencer with an inclination for business.
Rappaport recently starred in Amazon Prime’s Just Add Magic: Mystery City as Zoe. The Amazon original series revolves around three young children protecting a magic cookbook from dark forces and making mystical delicacies from the cookbook’s specific instructions. With an element of humor and self-discovery, the show succeeds in displaying Rappaports ability to play in a role that is more comedically driven,which suits the role of her new character Makayla Washington.
Head of Class has already had five scripts and a pilot written on orders from HBO’s streaming service HBO Max. “In May, HBO Max ordered pilot and five additional scripts for Head of the Class, which hails from American Vandal writers Amy Pocha and Seth Cohen, Bill Lawrence and his Doozer Productions; and Warner Bros. Television, which produced the original series,” according to Deadline.
