According to Deadline, Parks and Rec alum Nick Offerman will be joining the cast of HBO’s live-action adaptation of the video game series, The Last of Us. Offerman will be serving as a replacement for Con O’Neill (Vengeance is Mine), who exited the series due to scheduling conflicts.
Based on the Playstation video game series, The Last of Us is set in a world 20 years after a deadly virus destroys modern civilization. Hardened survivor Joel (played by Pedro Pascal) is tasked with smuggling Ellie, a 14-year old girl (played by Bella Ramsey), out of a quarantine zone to the Fireflies, a cure-searching organization. What starts off as an easy job turns into a long journey as Joel and Ellie travel across the US and depend on each other for survival.
Offerman will play Bill, a recurring character in the series. Bill is a survivor who aids Joel and Ellie in their trek to the Fireflies. In the original game, Bill crafts weapons and traps to fend off enemies and the undead.
HBO offered a first look at the series back in September. In July, Anna Torv joined the cast to recur as Tess.
The cast will also include Gabriel Luna (Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.), Nico Parker (Reminiscence), Merle Dandridge (Greenleaf), and Murray Bartlett (The White Lotus). Craig Mazin (Chernobyl) will serve as executive producer for the series.
The Last of Us is currently in production, which is rumored to wrap up in June. The series is set to have ten episodes.
