The first look at the highly anticipated limited series Scenes From a Marriage starring Jessica Chastain (Zero Dark Thirty) and Oscar Isaac (Inside Llewyn Davis) has arrived, via Indiewire. HBO released a jam packed teaser trailer revealing its 2021 line up schedule, offering looks at new and returning series.
Scenes From a Marriage is featured amongst countless other series in the HBO teaser, with Chastain and Isaac playing a married couple in trouble. The limited series is an adaptation based on the 1973 limited series of the same name. Directed by acclaimed Swedish film director Ingmar Bergman (Persona, Wild Strawberries), the series starred Bergman’s frequent muse Liv Ullman (Persona) and Erland Josephson (The Sacrifice) as an affluent married couple going through the ups and downs of marriage spanning over a decade in time.
In the HBO teaser, Chastain and Isaac are seen having tense moments and burning glares as a married couple on the fritz. Isaac previously starred in the HBO limited series Show Me A Hero, for which he won a Golden Globe. Chastain came onto the project by replacing Michelle Williams (Fosse/Vernon) who reportedly had to drop out due to scheduling conflicts. This marks Chastain’s first starring role in a television series. Hagai Levi (The Affair) serves as the creator, writer, and director of the upcoming adaptation.
Along with the first glimpse at Scenes From a Marriage, the teaser includes additional looks at the upcoming limited series Mare of Eastown starring Kate Winslet as a detective solving a murder in small town Pennsylvania. The series will premiere on HBO Sunday, April 21 at 10 p.m. E.T. The Nevers is also prominently featured, revealing more exclusive sneak peaks at the upcoming science fiction series. Set in London during the Victorian era, the series stars Laura Donnelly (Outlander) as Amalia True, a woman who begins to exhibit magical powers.
Other series in the HBO lineup trailer contain glimpses of the new limited series The White Lotus, along with the promise of new seasons for several series, including Succession, Curb Your Enthusiasm, In Treatment, Los Espookys and Insecure.
