In an exciting move for comedy lovers, HBO has officially picked up The Chair Company, a half-hour series starring and written by Tim Robinson (Friendship, Scream VI, Saturday Night Live), as mentioned in their official press release. The show, co-created and executive produced by Robinson and his longtime collaborator Zach Kanin (I Think You Should Leave, Detroiters), promises to deliver the signature brand of humor the duo is known for. Fans of Robinson’s sharp, absurdist style from I Think You Should Leave are likely to find something to laugh about with this new series, which is set to bring their unique touch to HBO’s comedy lineup.
According to the press release, the show, directed and executive produced by Andrew DeYoung (Pen15, Shrill), centers around William Ronald Trosper, as portrayed by Robinson, an ordinary man who, after an embarrassing work incident, stumbles into an unexpected and vast conspiracy. HBO’s Amy Gravitt, Executive Vice President of Comedy Programming, praised the project, saying, “With an imprint only Tim and Zach can have on a character, William Ronald Trosper follows in the strong tradition of HBO comedy leads. I couldn’t be happier to announce the pickup of this wildly enjoyable show.”
According to the press release, the cast features an intriguing lineup of talent alongside Robinson. Lake Bell (Harley Quinn, Mother Couch) plays Barb Trosper, with Sophia Lillis (It, I Am Not Okay With This) as their daughter, Natalie, and Will Price (After the Hunt, A Complete Unknown) as their son, Seth. Rounding out the Trosper family dynamic is Joseph Tudisco (A Brooklyn Love Story, FBI) as Mike Santini, and Lou Diamond Phillips (Search Party, Easter Sunday) makes a guest appearance in the pilot as Jeff Levjman.
Excited about the opportunity to work with HBO, Robinson, and Kanin shared, “We are so excited and thankful to get to make this show with HBO, HyperObject, and all of the amazing cast and crew that have helped to create it.” The duo’s collaboration with HyperObject Industries promises to bring even more creative firepower to the table.
With such a strong ensemble and Robinson’s comedic genius at the forefront, The Chair Company looks poised to be HBO’s next big comedy hit. Stay tuned—this is one series you won’t want to miss.
