HBO Orders Limited Series ‘The White Lotus’

HBO has ordered a limited series from creator Mike White (Enlightened), entitled The White Lotus, according to The Hollywood ReporterThe series is slated to begin production in Hawaii later this month while following COVID-19 guidelines. Murray Bartlett (Looking, Tales of the City), Connie Britton (Dirty John, Friday Night Lights), and Jennifer Coolidge (2 Broke Girls) will lead the cast alongside Alexandra Daddario (Baywatch, San Andreas), Fred Hechinger (Eighth Grade), and Sydney Sweeney (Euphoria).

The White Lotus will serve as a social satire, following the lives of staff and guests at a tropical resort throughout the week. HBO Programming Executive VP Francesca Orsi (A Crack in the Floor) has said of White in a statement, “Mike is an unparalleled talent whose groundbreaking work has transformed both the film and TV space….We couldn’t be happier to collaborate with him again on yet another hilarious and perceptive piece that exposes the complexities of life and humanity itself,” via The Hollywood Reporter.

In a statement, White expressed his excitement to be leading this show, “It’s beyond exciting to return to HBO with this project and such an incredible cast….I am very grateful to everyone who has made it possible for us to bring our little bubble to Hawaii, a place I am proud to think of as my second home,” per The Hollywood ReporterThe White Lotus will be White’s first series as a creator since HBO’s Enlightened, which aired from 2011-2013.
