HBO Max Renews ‘The Sex Lives Of College Girls’

HBO Max’s The Sex Lives of College Girls will return for a sophomore season, ahead of the release of the final two episodes of its debut season, according to The Hollywood ReporterThe series is loosely based on the experiences of the show’s showrunner, Mindy Kaling (The Office), who continues to executive produce Netflix’s Never Have I Ever.

“Mindy Kaling and Justin Noble have created and written a show that is full of heart, female friendships and awkward naked parties,” said Sarah Aubrey, the Head of Originals at HBO Max, via The Hollywood Reporter“We are delighted that this comic, honest portrayal of the college condition has resonated with everyone, whether they had sex in college or not. We can’t wait to see where these uniquely complex yet relatable characters will go next.”

The series stars Pauline Chalamet (The King of Staten Island), Reneé Rapp in her debut role, Gavin Leatherwood (Chilling Adventures of Sabrina), Alyah Chanelle Scott in her debut role, and Midori Francis (Dash & Lily). It follows four college freshmen navigating their newfound freedom on the campus of Essex College. Kaling stated that she drew from her own experiences as an outcast for the series.

“That’s the reason I wanted to do the show,” she said, via The Hollywood ReporterIt’s called The Sex Lives of College Girls, but we wanted to tell a story of four passionate, bright girls in college. The romantic stuff just felt like a good hook.”

The final two episodes of the series will premiere on December 9.
