The season finale of The Flight Attendant may have landed on HBO Max on December 17, but the show’s story does not end there. HBO Max has renewed the thrilling drama for second season of twists and turns, Entertainment Weekly reports. Series lead Kaley Cuoco (The Big Bang Theory, Harley Quinn) reacted to the renewal confirmation with stunned graciousness on her Instagram.
The Flight Attendant is a mystery series that kicks off with a tragic discovery and a wrongful accusation: “Cassie (Cuoco) wakes up in Bangkok next to the dead body of her one night stand, Alex Sokolov (Michiel Huisman, The Haunting of Hill House)… She tries to [dis]entangle the mysteries surrounding his gruesome end. Amid all the intrigue, Cassie also untangles some deep-seated personal traumas surrounding the death of her father, and ends up in much better place than where she started,” via Thrillist.
The Flight Attendant is based on the best-selling novel of the same name by Chris Bohjalian (The Red Lotus), but according to Thrillist, the show’s source material will be of little assistance when it comes to formulating future storylines: “The first season ends roughly where Bohjalian’s book does, even though it takes some major detours along the way. Alex’s murder is solved, and Cassie’s being recruited by the CIA.”
In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, co-showrunner Steve Yockey (Supernatural) assured fans of the show that second season would not abandon Cuoco’s character just as she is about to take control of her life: “If we were going to do a second season… it would probably be another adventure with Cassie Bowden, flight attendant.” Cuoco, who is also an executive producer on the show, has reportedly been aware of season two’s potential plan of attack for a good long while. “We have… a very clear path for what a season two would look like… and we hope we’ll get the opportunity to do that,” she confided to Entertainment Weekly, via People.
Season one of The Flight Attendant can be streamed exclusively through HBO Max. Bohjalian’s novel has been recently reprinted and is available to purchase through most major book retailers.
