The streaming service HBO Max has ordered two pilots this week. HBO Max will produce both shows.
Gumshoe is a single-camera comedy written by Aaron Brownstein and Simon Ganz (Santa Clarita Diet and About a Boy); both men will write, executive produce, run the show. Comedy veteran, Randall Einhorn (It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, Parks and Recreation, and The Office) will serve as director and executive producer. Conan O’Brien, David Kissinger, Jeff Ross, and Larry Sullivan will also serve as executive producers. Gumshoe follows the story of “a sweet, optimistic young cop and a creepy, crime-obsessed teenager who secretly team up to solve a murder.”
Sarah-Raquel Jimenez sold the show Vegas High based on her own life. Vegas High will be Jimenez’s first writing credit and first television credit. The show is set in the 90’s and is described as “a coming-of-age story about a girl caught between two worlds – the fast paced lifestyle of Las Vegas and her strong Mormon faith and community.” Jimenez will serve as a writer and executive producer. Gillian Robespierre ( Mrs. Fletcher and Crashing) will direct and executive produce. Michael Showalter (Search Party) and Jordana Mollick (Play by Play) will executive produce for Semi-Formal Productions.
HBO Max has few other pilot orders in the works. A comedy Delilah, the gothic drama The Shelley Society, a drama The Rules of Magic, a dramedy Generation, and a young adult drama Red Bird Lane. The streaming site has announced spinoffs and reboots for the site, as well. So far, it has been reported that a Grease spinoff, a Gossip Girl reboot, an adaptation of the book Tokyo Vice, and a reboot of Adult Swim’s The Boondocks are in the works. HBO Max will also host South Park, Friends, and The Big Bang Theory on its service.
HBO Max is scheduled to debut in May of next year for $15 per month.
