HBO Max and The CW Announces ‘What We Do In the Shadows’ Spinoff ‘Wellington Paranormal’

Following the release of its second season, a spinoff series, entitled Wellington Paranormal, for FX’s What We Do In The Shadows will be produced for a co-production between HBO Max and The CW, according to Variety. Based on 2014 film by Jermaine Clement (Flight of the Conchords) and Taika Waititi (Jojo Rabbit), the FX original has received critical and commercial success during its first two seasons and is preparing for its third installment. The spinoff is expected to premiere for The CW in summer 2021 with HBO Max allowing next-day streaming for subscribers. The series will also be made available for individuals using The CW app.

What We Do In The Shadows follows the same premise as its film. The series centers on a group of vampires living in a house in Staten Island, New York in modern times, sent to take over the Western world. The series stars Kayvan Novak (Fonejacker) as Nandor the Relentless, Natasia Demetriou (Stath Lets Flats) as Nadja, Matt Berry (The IT Crowd, Toast of London) as Laszlo Cravensworth, Mark Proksch (Better Call Saul, The Office) as the energy vampire Colin Robinson, and Harvey Guillén (Eye Candy) as Nandor’s familiar Guillermo.

Wellington Paranormal will be set in the same story world and follow police officers that will investigate the paranormal and supernatural activity within the neighborhood of Wellington, New Zealand, the location where the parent film was set. The series will feature Karen O’Leary (The Breaker Upperers) as Officer O’Leary and Mike Minogue (Hunt for the Wilderpeople, District 9) as Officer Minogue.

This news adds to the growing universe of What We Do In The Shadows as the FX original comedy has garnered two Primetime Emmy nominations in 2020 for Outstanding Comedy Series and Outstanding Writing for a Comedy Series.

Currently, there is no exact premiere date available for the upcoming spinoff series Wellington Paranormal.
