Hasan Minhaj Joins Cast Of Apple’s ‘The Morning Show’ For Season 2

Following the cancellation of his Netflix talk show Patriot Act, Hasan Minhaj (Hasan Minhaj: Homecoming King), has landed a recurring role on Apple’s Emmy-winning series The Morning Show. Minhaj will join the series opposite Jennifer Aniston (Friends) and Reese Witherspoon (Big Little Lies, Little Fires Everywhere) for its upcoming second season, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Minhaj’s Patriot Act, which examined the larger trends surrounding today’s cultural and political landscape, received its cancellation this past summer following its Peabody Award for entertainment in 2019. He broke barriers as the first Indian American host of a weekly comedy show.

Minhaj will now join the cast of The Morning Show, which follows the drama that occurs within a morning talk show. Their debut season explored misogyny and sexual misconduct within media culture after news anchor Mitch, played by Steve Carell (The Office), was fired for assaulting a fellow staff member. The writers aimed to reflect the #MeToo movement. The series began filming season two before the industry-wide shutdown due to the COVID-19 outbreak in March, however recently began production again. A premiere date has still not been released.

The Morning Show is executive produced by Michael Ellenberg (Tell-Tale), Witherspoon, Lauren Neustadter (Big Little Lies, Little Fires Everywhere), Mimi Leder (Deep Impact), Aniston, and Kristin Hahn (Stargirl).
