Sarah Adina Smith, who has directed and co-executive produced Amazon’s series Hanna, has recently signed an agreement with Amazon Studios, Deadline has learned. According to this deal, Smith will develop TV series under her Everything is Everything production company. The series is set to premiere on Amazon Prime Video globally.
Smith directed and co-executive produced the first two episodes of Amazon’s series adaptation of Hanna. She has directed the pilot for Hulu’s adaptation of the novel Looking for Alaska as well as some episodes of Room 104, Wrecked, and Legion. She is also currently writing a pilot for FX with producers Darren Aronofsky’s Protozoa Pictures and Fox Searchlight Television and working on an adaptation of Jonathan Lethem’s sci-fi novel Girl in Landscape.
“This marks an extension of the strong relationship Amazon Studios has with Sarah Adina Smith, who made her mark on the successful first season of Hanna,” said the Co-Head of Television at Amazon Studios, Vernon Sanders. “Her proven track record of creating compelling stories and authentic characters across range of genres make Smith and her Everything Is Everything banner a perfect fit for the compelling content we are creating for Amazon Prime Video,” Sanders added.

Smith also gave some advice to other women directors “I would tell them to do things their own way and don’t feel like you ever have to conform to the system, because the system was largely built by men.” she said. “We need to take all the good lessons from the past and from those existing systems but also not be afraid to make our own rules,” she added.
