Gugu Mbatha-Raw Talks Concept of Disney+ ‘Loki’ Limited Series

Gugu Mbatha-Raw (Beyond the Lights) discussed her role in the Disney+ series Loki during an interview about her new film Summerland. Mbatha-Raw is regarded as the female lead of the series, according to Entertainment Tonight.

Loki is set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and will focus on where the god of mischief teleported with the Tesseract, one of the Infinity Stones. The series will begin in the in-universe year of 2012; however, the timeline will undergo shifts as an alternate setting was created by the time travel that occurred in the Avengers: Endgame film. Tom Hiddleston (Thor) plays the titular demi-god and has a supporting cast of Sophia Di Martino (Flowers) and Owen Wilson (Wedding Crashers). The series was written by Michael Waldron (HarmonQuest) and executive produced by Kevin Feige (Black Widow). The 6-episode series is directed by Kate Herron (Sex Education).

In her Summerland interview with Entertainment Tonight, Mbatha-Raw teased the concept of the limited series. “It goes to other places and you get to see that character [Loki] mature in different way. It’s going to be exciting for the fans to really see Tom and that character take the center of the story,” via Entertainment Tonight.

Mbatha-Raw was unable to reveal more information because the highly-anticipated series has been “tightly guarded” as reported previously by ET Online. Production of Loki was halted in March due to coronavirus with expectations for filming to resume in August on set in Atlanta.
