‘GOT’ Prequel Series ‘House of the Dragon’ Debuts New Trailer Ahead of San Diego Comic-Con

“War is afoot” in the latest trailer for HBO’s highly-anticipated prequel series to its epic fantasy saga, Game of Thrones. With House of the Dragon arriving to audiences on August 21, HBO unleashed more details of the show in nearly three-minute trailer via TVLine. View the video below.

Set nearly 200 years before the events of Jon Snow, the Lanniesters, and Daenerys Targaryen, the series is set at Kingdom’s Landing when Viserys Targaryen, played by The Third Day’s Paddy Considine, ruled Westeros. Before the fall of the Targaryen name across the land, King Viserys faces the difficult challenge of naming an heir to the Iron Throne. In a warped version of Succession, he must choose between his brother, Matt Smith’s (His House) Daemon Targaryen, and his daughter, Emma D’Arcy’s (Truth Seekers) Princess Rhaenyra. Selecting Rhaenyra would continue the direct bloodline, but a woman has never ruled Westeros. This division will split familial ties leading to betrayal and blood.

According to TVLine, the impressive extended cast includes Eve Best as Princess Rhaenys Targaryen (Nurse Jackie); Fabien Frankel (The Serpent) as Ser Criston Cole; Olivia Cooke (Slow Horses) playing Alicent Hightower with Rhys Ifans (The King’s Man) as Otto Hightower; Steve Toussiant (Small Axe) as Lord Corlys Velaryon; and, Sonoya Mizuno (Devs) as Mysaria.

Based on the novels by George R. R. Martin (Dark Winds), the series will be making more noise at this week’s San Diego Comic-Con beginning July 21, according to Deadline. The show’s Hall H panel will take place on Saturday, July 23 in a time slot previously held by AMC’s long-esteemed drama series, The Walking Dead. And the PR machine doesn’t stop there as promotions stretch from posters aligning the convention center, to being the singular artwork on attendees’ hotel room keys.

House of the Dragon premieres Sunday, August 21 at 9 p.m. ET on HBO and HBO Max.
