CNN has announced a new interview show featuring popular Canadian television personality George Stroumboulopoulos as the host. The show, Stroumboulopoulos, will air Fridays at 11 PM .
According to the CNN Press Room, Stroumboulopoulos will “explore the worlds of art, pop culture, politics, tech news and sports, through the eyes and the words of their most interesting figures.”
Stroumboulopoulos is famous for hosting and executive producing Canada’s primetime talk show, George Stroumboulopoulos Tonight. He spent several years working in radio at the start of his career, then moved to television where he became host and producer of two shows on Canada’s popular music channel MuchMusic, as the official CBC website states. In 2005 he went to work on the Hour as host and co-executive producer and in 2007 returned to radio for The Strombo Show.
The Huffington Post recently interviewed Stroumboulopoulos about his new show and questioned him on his move to CNN. In response, he said, “Jeff Zucker has been really cool … [CNN] is in that state of mind where they want to have fun and want to take chances.”
CNN asked Stroumboulopoulos in an interview how his new show will differ from his Canadian show George Stroumboulopoulos Tonight, to which he replied, “What I do, really, is just getting involved in people’s lives. I like having good conversations with people; and I do that there, I’ll do that here at CNN, I’d do that if I was sitting on a streetcar beside somebody. So I just like having conversations with people and I don’t really think that has to change, because the audience just wants you to kind of explore the person sitting across from you…”
The first guests scheduled to appear include rapper Wiz Khalifa, actress Ellen Page and Robert Kirkman, author of the Walking Dead comic book series.
