‘Game of Thrones’ Creators David Benioff and D.B. Weiss Developing Series Adaptation of Richard Powers’ ‘The Overstory’ for Netflix

Game of Thrones creators David Benioff and D.B. Weiss are developing another novel adaptation in the form of Richard Power’s The Overstory for Netflix, according to Variety. Benioff and Weiss are also executive producing the series as part of their overall deal with the streamer.

Richard Robbins (12 Monkeys, Good Girls Revolt) wrote the pilot for the new series and will also executive produce alongside Powers, Hugh Jackman (Les Misérables, Logan) and Bernie Caulfield of Benioff and Weiss’s own Bighead Littlehead production name, according to Variety.

The Overstory is Powers’ twelfth novel, and it’s about “a world alongside ours that is vast, interconnected, resourceful, magnificently inventive, and almost invisible to us,” according to Deadline. Within the novel, a few people from our world learn how to see that parallel one.

Powers published The Overstory in 2018 and wound up receiving the Pulitzer Prize, according to Variety.

In addition to The Overstory, Benioff and Weiss are also writing and producing Netflix’s The Three-Body Problem, an adaptation of the sci-fi novel series, with Alexander Woo (True Blood). The pair also serve as executive producers on Amanda Peet’s dramedy The Chair, which stars Sandra Oh (Killing Eve, Grey’s Anatomy).
