This Friday the 13th was a great day to be a vampire, or just a fan, as FX’s What We Do in the Shadows received a season four renewal and its first full-length trailer for season three. “Fans can’t seem to get enough of What We Do in the Shadows and FX is ready to feed that appetite by setting up the series for a fourth season,” Variety quoted Nick Grad, President of Original Programming for FX Entertainment.
Alongside the news of renewal, fans were given a chance to sink their teeth into season three in the upcoming season’s first full length trailer. Returning to FX on September 2, Friday’s trailer saw the series vampiric roommates venture away from their haunting abode and into the world – under the cover of darkness, of course.
Variety provides the official synopsis for season three of What We Do in the Shadows: “The vampires are elevated to a new level of power and will encounter the vampire from which all vampires have descended, a tempting Siren, gargoyles, werewolf kickball, Atlantic City casinos, wellness cults, ex-girlfriends, gyms and supernatural curiosities galore.” In addition, Mark Proksch’s (The Office, Decker) energy vampire Colin Robinson will turn 100, Kayvan Novak’s (Thunderbirds Are Go, Cruella) Nandor will look for love and the gang will face Harvey Guillén’s (Werewolves Within, Eye Candy) Guillermo’s vampire-hunting linage as they vie for dominance on the vampire council.
Friday’s trailer also showcases the return of Kristen Schaal (Bob’s Burgers, Gravity Falls) as Floating Woman, a character first appearing in season one episode “The Trial,” where the vampire council is first introduced. Not returning for season three are series creators and vampire council members Taika Waititi (Jojo Rabbit, Thor: Ragnarok) and Jemaine Clement (Flight of the Conchords, Legion) who brought the world of What We Do in the Shadows to life in their original comedy film, that spawned both FX’s series and spinoff Wellington Paranormal.
While season four’s renewal is still fresh, producer and writer Paul Simms (The Larry Sander’s Show, Atlanta) has already teased some storylines. When speaking to Deadline, Simms specifically cited episode four of season four as the point at which more of Guillermo’s lineage and extended family will be introduced.
Before jumping ahead to season four, fans will get a chance to feed off season three’s ten episode run, starting on September 2 on FX.
