FX Orders John Singleton’s ‘Snowfall’

FX ordered John Singleton’s drama pilot “Snowfall” about crack cocaine in 1980s Los Angeles.

Singleton, the Oscar winning producer and director of Boyz n The Hood, will direct the pilot episode that Singleton co-wrote with Eric Amadio, according to Variety.

The one hour drama set in 1981 in Los Angeles will deal with the crack cocaine epidemic and its effects on the culture of LA. Singleton said in a statement about the announcement, “I have always been fascinated with that volatile moment in time before crack changed everything. It’s a tense, insane and sexy era that touched every aspect of our culture.”

The show will follow three main characters: Franklin Saint, a young street dealer looking for power; Gustavo Zapata, an ex-Mexican wrestler looking for the American dream by becoming a gangster; and Logan Miller, a rebellious son of an important family, according to Variety

The announcement was made by presidents of original programming, FX Networks and FX Productions: Eric Schrier and Nick Grad. Schrier said during the announcement, “’Snowfall’ takes us on a wild ride through one of LA’s most fascinating cultural and social periods, and no one can tell this story better than John Singleton. The pilot script by John and Eric brilliantly depicts the era through the story of three captivating characters, and we can’t wait to see John’s execution of it.”

Production will begin on “Snowfall” in the summer.
