FX on Hulu Cancels ‘Y: The Last Man’

After releasing its first season on the FX on Hulu streaming slate, it has been announced that Y: The Last Man has been canceled by Hulu instead of picking up a second season, according to ComicBook.com. The news was unveiled by the likes of the series’ showrunner, Eliza Clark (The Killing), via her personal Twitter account. The original streaming series released its first three episodes of the first season on September 13 and still has two remaining episodes until the season finale on November 1. Check out Clark’s tweet explaining the cancellation and her statement on her series below:

Y: The Last Man is based upon a comic book series under the same name from the mid-2000s which incorporated a post-apocalyptic setting that saw every mammal with a Y chromosome be killed off with the exception of a lone individual in Yorck Brown and his pet monkey. The series, just like the comic book, witnesses the utter turmoil of this new world through the lens of Yorick’s explorations. The cast includes Ben Schnetzer (Happy Town) as Yorick, Ashley Romans (NOS4A2) as Agent 355, Diane Lane (Man of Steel, The Outsiders) as Jennifer Brown, Juliana Canfield (Succession) as Beth DeVille, Olivia Thirlby (Juno) as Hero Brown, Amber Tamblyn (127 Hours) as Kimberly Campbell Cunningham, Diana Bang (The Interview) as Dr. Allison Mann, Marin Ireland (Sneaky Pete) as Nora Brady, and Elliot Fletcher (Shameless) as Sam Jordan.

The cancellation comes as somewhat of a surprise given the series has garnered strong positive critical reception such as a Rotten Tomatoes score of 73%. However, showrunner Clark remains hopeful that the series can find a new home in the near future.
