FX Gains The Rights To ‘Straight Outta Compton’

The commercial rights to the box office hit, “Straight Outta Compton”, now have been nabbed by FX according to Deadline.

The movie will premiere on FX Networks including FX, FXX, FXM and FXNOW. “Straight Outta Compton” opened with 60.2 million at the box office. It was the fifth biggest August premiere ever, and the biggest August premiere for an R rated film (Deadline).

This year FX has acquired the television rights to other blockbuster films including “Mission Impossible – Rogue Nation,” “Minions,” “Jurassic World”,  “Furious 7”, “Trainwreck,” “Spy,” “Pixels,” “Terminator: Genisys,” “Ted 2,” “Pitch Perfect 2,” “Taken 3,” “Kingsman: The Secret Service” and “Home”. Also, the network noted that they acquired 67% of all 2014 films that made more than $100 million at the U.S. box office according to Variety.

“Straight Outta Compton” stars the members of the hip hop group N.W.A, including Dr. Dre, Ice Cube, DJ Yella and MC Ren. The film follows the rise and fall of the hip hop group under Eazy-E’s label.

It debuted in theaters August 14 and was directed by F. Gary Gray (The Italian Job).
