‘Fresh Off the Boat’ Producers Team with Fred Savage for NBC Comedy Series

NBC has just given a pilot order for a new mixed race family comedy series from the showrunners of ABC’s hit Fresh Off the Boat.

According to The Hollywood Reporter Nahnatchka Khan and Kourtney Kang’s untitled series is NBC’s first comedy pilot order of the season. The single-camera comedy will be written by Kang and is based on her life, centering on the only girl in a mixed race family in a suburb of Philadelphia as she follows her dreams to become a Laker Girl like Paula Abdul.

Kang, along with serving as co-EP with Khan on Fresh Off the Boat, served as an executive producer and writer on CBS’ How I Met Your Mother. Khan has previously worked as a writer/executive producer on UnfabulousAmerican Dad! and Don’t Trust the B—- in Apartment 23.

Fred Savage (Party Down, It’s Always Sunny In PhiladelphiaGarfunkel and Oates) is set to direct the pilot and executive produce along with Kang, Khan and Mandy Summers. Savage has always been known for his on-camera work, and has established an impressive list of TV comedy directing credits in recent years. Khan, Kang and Savage all have overall deals with 20th Century Fox. The untitled series is one of multiple projects in development for Khan this season.
