Frank Langella Out As Lead Of ‘The Fall Of The House Of Usher’ After Alleged Misconduct On Set

Frank Langella (The Trail Of The Chicago 7), who was set to star in the Netflix eight-episode limited series, The Fall Of The House Of Usher, will no longer be cast in the show after an investigation determined Langella was allegedly involved in misconduct while on set, according to Deadline. The 84-year-old actor has been accused of sexual harassment, allegedly making inappropriate jokes as well as allegedly  engaging in unwanted touching to female co-star, which was first reported by TMZ.

The Fall Of The House Of Usher is currently about halfway through production and the scenes that already feature Langella will be reshot. Langella was not scheduled to work on set this week, but filming on the series will continue with scenes not involving his character. Neither Netflix or Langella have commented on the matter as of now.

The Netflix limited series, which is being filmed in British Columbia, Canada, is based on the short story of the same name by Edgar Allan Poe (The Tell-Tale Heart). Langella was set to play Roderick Usher, who is the towering patriarch of the Usher dynasty, according to Deadline.

The show is also set to star Mark Hamill (Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back), Carla Gugino (The Haunting Of Hill House), Mary McDonnell (Dances With Wolves), and Carl Lumbly (The Falcon And The Winter Soldier). It is described as an epic tale of greed, horror and tragedy and features themes of madness, family, isolation and identity, per Deadline.

The Fall Of The House Of Usher is being created by Mike Flanagan (Doctor Sleep). Flanagan executive produces along with Trevor Macy (The Strangers) and Melinda Nishioka (Before I Wake), who are all producing under their Intrepid Pictures banner. Other executive producers include Emmy Grinwis (Snowfall) and Michael Fimognari (To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before). Deadline reports Flanagan and Fimognari will each direct four episodes.
