Fox Renews ‘The Mick’ for Season Two

The Mick is around to stay. Entertainment Weekly has confirmed that the freshman Fox comedy will return for another season.

The show stars Kaitlin Olson as Mickey, an aunt who is tasked with taking care of her sister’s children after her sister and brother-in-law are arrested by the FBI for fraud and tax evasion. After Mickey gets word that her sister and brother-in-law have fled the country, she realizes that taking care of the spoiled kids is a full-time job and enlists the help of those around her to help with the kids.

“From the earliest stages of development, all of us at Fox had enormous faith in The Mick, and it hasn’t disappointed. Kaitlin is a fearless comedic force, and the rest of the cast has just proven to be phenomenal. John and Dave Chernin have a very clear vision of what this show is, and they execute on that vision each week to perfection. We really couldn’t be happier with The Mick, and we’re so thrilled to renew the series for a second season,” Fox President of Entertainment David Madden said.

The show’s first season will have 17 episodes, with nine of those episodes having already aired.

The Mick is currently Fox’s top-rated non-animated comedy this year, so the renewal doesn’t come as a surprise. According to TV by the Numbers, the show is averaging a 1.4 rating in the 18 to 49 demographic and 3.61 million viewers in the live + same day ratings. Those numbers grow in the live + 3 day ratings to a 1.9 rating and 5.11 million viewers. Fox says that the show attracts about 8 million viewers each week when viewing on different platforms and on-demand viewing is factored in.

The show is currently the fifth Fox show to be renewed for the next season, joining Empire, Lucifer, The Simpsons and Bob’s Burgers.

The Mick airs Tuesday nights at 8:30 p.m. on Fox.
