‘Comedy Bang! Bang!,’ ‘@midnight,’ And More Join SXSW 2017’s Comedy Festival

Guys, it’s that time of year again. The time of year when people from television, movies, and music all fish into the depths of their wallets because SXSW is coming soon and we can’t miss a minute of it!

SXSW 2017 released its lineup for their annual Comedy Festival today. While the Comedy Festival is a newer addition to SXSW, this year marks its historic ten year run for the acclaimed conference. The Comedy Festival is known for having everyone from big-name comedians to up-and-coming stars, and consists of activities like broadcast tapings, live shows, and even live podcast recordings.

Charlie Sotelo, Head of SXSW’s Comedy Festival, was quoted as reveling in the event’s historic number: “Over the last ten years, our goal has been to provide a space for promising comedic performers to collaborate with luminaries shaping the comedy world, and it’s been incredible to watch SXSW’s unique gathering of talent lead to successful projects and lasting relationships.”

Now that’s all well and good, but what (and who) is exactly in store for Comedy Festival audiences? In terms of comedy participants we have familiar names like Al Madrigal, Bob Odenkirk, Chris Hardwick, Dan Harmon, Guy Branum, Wyatt Cenac, John Hodgman, Doug Benson, Sasheer Zamata, Jason Mantzoukas–the list goes on and on.

But how about special programs? After all, SXSW is known for its variety. Well, buckle up, because SXSW Comedy Festival Special Programs will include shows like @midnight, Comedy Bang! Bang!, Above Average, HarmonQuest, Doug Stanhope and Friends, Improv4humans, My Wife Hates Me, Night Train, The Laugh Button Live w/ Gotham Comedy Club, What’s Your F@%kin’ Deal?, Talk Show the Gam Show, and the famous improv group ASSSSCAT (which once boasted performers like Amy Poehler and Chris Gethard).

And that’s not all–performances are scheduled for truTV, Doug Loves Movies, and many, many more. The conference lasts from March 10-19, with @midnight with Chris Hardwick Live kicking off the festivities on Friday at ACL Live. In this new @midnight, contestants Nick Swardson, Tom Lennon, and Whitney Cummings will square off to see who will win the internet–or SXSW.
