Fox Renews ‘Duncanville’ Animated Series for Season 2

After attracting an average of 2.3 million viewers per episode and imposing itself as Fox’s most streamed comedy, Duncanville is renewed for season 2, the platform announced Monday. Co-produced by Disney’s 20th Century Fox TV, Universal TV and Fox Entertainment, the new cartoon is the second freshman comedy to have an early pick-up after Bless the Harts and will be part of Fox’s animated broadcast schedule along with Family Guy and The Simpsons.

The success of the show can be explained by its team of veterans: Parks and Recreations star Amy Phoeler, who also voices Duncan and his mother, co-created the show with The Simpsons writers Mike and Julie Scully. The voice acting also counts numerous veterans, including Ty Burrell (Modern Family), Riki Lindhome (Another Period), Rashida Jones (Parks and Recreation), Betsy Sodaro (Disjointed), Yassir Lester (Black Monday) and Golden Globes Nominee Wiz Khalifa (Bojack Horseman).

Goofy and colorful, the series follows the adventures of 15 year old Duncan and his adventures through teenage years. Assisted by his best friend Bex (Jones) and sometimes annoyed by his unconventional family, Duncan bounces between friends, girls and classes with a refreshing humor. The team working on Duncanville explained that they didn’t want their work to be just “another cartoon”. Contrary to other shows focusing on parents, they wanted Duncanville to focus on the teenager’s POV by taking inspiration in That ’70s Show.

“What we like about That ’70s Show is, you have a high-school kid in the middle of it. But the kids act kind of one way with their family, and another way with their friends. So we were trying to find a funny balance between the two”, explained Mike Scully to Digital Spy.

Season 2 release date is yet to be known.
