Fox Picks Up Sara Michelle Gellar Led “Somtimes I Lie”

Fox’s upcoming psychological drama, Sometimes I Lie — starring Buffy alumna Sarah Michelle Gellar— will follow a woman who is trapped inside her own body following a suspicious accident. Based on Alice Feeney’s novel of the same name, the series’ will closely follow the original with the book’s official synopsis reading:

Amber wakes up in a hospital. She can’t move. She can’t speak. She can’t open her eyes. She can hear everyone around her, but they have no idea. Amber doesn’t remember what happened, but she has a suspicion her husband had something to do with it. Alternating between her paralyzed present, the week before her accident, and a series of childhood diaries from twenty years ago, this brilliant psychological thriller asks: Is something really a lie if you believe it’s the truth?

Ellen DeGeneres and Jeff Kleeman  who is known for  ABC’s short lived Splitting Up Together will both executive produce the series alongside Gellar. Sometimes I Lie will also be the TV vet’s second project to be greenlit by Fox recently with the second being the dramedy, Other People’s Houses.

The CW’s former Ringer EP’s will partner with Gellar on the nascent series which has been described as a cross between Big Little Lies and Catastrophe and is set to follow “nine people living in the quiet, affluent Los Angeles neighborhood of Larchmont Village.”

Aside from the actress’ newer projects, audiences are most familiar with Gellar from her portrayal of Buffy Summers on the cult classic, Buffy the Vampire Slayer (1997–2003). She followed up with the feature films: I Know What You Did Last Summer (1997), Scream 2 (1997), Cruel Intentions (1999), and the Scooby-Doo films.

However, if either series lands a full series order it would mark Gellar’s most significant TV role since CBS’ The Crazy Ones, which was prematurely cancelled in 2014. The sitcom starred the late Robin Williams as an advertising executive who a has a complicated professional and personal relationship with his daughter played by Gellar.
