Fox Gives New ‘X-Men’ Show Pilot Order

Looks like Marvel is branching out from Netflix and ABC. ComicBook.com confirmed that Fox has ordered a pilot for a new X-Men show that will be produced by 20th TV and Marvel Television.

Matt Nix will write the pilot and will be an executive producer of the show. Lauren Shuler Donner, Bryan Singer, Simon Kinberg, Jeph Loeb and Jim Chory will also serve as executive producers of the show.

Not only that, but Slashfilm reported that Singer will serve as the director for the pilot. Singer is well-versed in the X-Men universe, as he’s directed X-Men, X2, X-Men: Days of Future Past and X-Men: Apocalypse.

The pilot follow two human parents as they find out their child has mutant powers and must go on the run from the government. From there, they find a network of mutants that are also hiding from the government and join them.

The X-Men pilot is assumed to take the place of Hellfire, a show that Nix was developing for FX. However, the show continued to fall behind in production and was eventually taken out of development. Instead, FX continued to move forward with Legion, which premieres on Feb. 8 at 10 p.m. on FX

Just because the show has a pilot ordered for it doesn’t mean that it will be on the air for the 2017-2018 television season. The next steps include writing the pilot, casting for the pilot and shooting the pilot. If Fox likes what it sees, then it will be picked up for a season. That announcement will be made some time around the end of April through the middle of May, when Fox has their upfronts presentation, which is when the network presents their schedule to advertisers and show their new trailers for the upcoming shows.
