‘The Girlfriend Experience’ Adds 3 New Characters

Things are only going to get more intricate for the characters on The Girlfriend Experience.

For those who are not up on their Starz subscription, The Girlfriend Experience is based on the movie by the same name. The first season of the show featured the character Christine Reade, who was introduced to “transactional relationships” while balancing her demanding life of being a law student.

Now Variety announced that three additional characters will be added for the latest season. This will drastically change the format of the show, as the characters will experience parallel storylines from different points of view. However, it was not one that the show made spontaneously.

Steven Soderbergh, who executive produces The Girlfriend Experience, talked about the premeditation this direction incorporated, saying, “It was always our intention to change the universe every season, but Amy and Lodge have cranked up the ambition, scope, and complexity of the show by creating two storylines even more provocative and confrontational than last year’s. I’m as excited as a Swedish person is allowed to get.”

Additionally, the move came as no surprise to the actress previously headlining as Christine Reade, Riley Keough. “From my point of view, it would be silly to continue on with Christine’s story, but I know that (Starz CEO) Chris (Albrecht) was talking about potentially if there’s a second season telling different stories every season,” Keough mentioned to Variety before the official start of season one.

Anna Friel, Carmen Ejogo, and Louisa Krause will be the feature for season two of the show. The season is expected to last for 14 episodes.
