Floriana Lima No Longer A Series Regular On ‘Supergirl’

Floriana Lima will not be a Supergirl series regular for season 3, opting for a recurring role in an unconfirmed number of “multiple episodes”.

According to Entertainment Weekly, Lima’s reduced role in season 3 is to allow her to explore other opportunities in film and television. Lima joined CW’s Supergirl series in season 2, taking on the role of Detective Maggie Sawyer.

“We adore Floriana and have loved working with her to tell this inspiring story,” said executive producer Andrew Kreisberg in a statement. “Although she’s not available to us as a series regular next season, as she’s looking to pursue other opportunities, we’re happy she’ll be returning for multiple episodes in season 3.”

Lima’s reduced role to recurring puts a possible wrinkle in Maggie and Alex Danvers’ (Chyler Leigh) relationship. The end of season 2 had Alex proposing to Maggie, but viewers were left waiting for her answer.

Greg Berlanti’s Supergirl just wrapped season 2 last week, with the fight between Kara (Melissa Benoist) and Rhea (Teri Hatcher) coming to a head. Along with Leigh, Benoist, and Hatcher, Supergirl features Mehcad Brooks, Tyler Hoechlin, Jeremy Jordan, Chris Wood, David Harewood, and Calista Flockhart. Season 3 of Supergirl premieres on The CW this fall.
