‘Fit to Fat to Fit’ Show About a Personal Trainer Gaining and Losing Over 60 lbs to Motivate Client

A&E’s new show Fit to Fat to Fit is taking weight loss to new extremes. In this show, fitness trainer JJ Peterson goes beyond instructing his client Ray Stewart on which exercises to do. Peterson, who has been fit all his life gains over 60 pounds in 120 days (184 lbs to 245 lbs) and then proceeds to lose all the weight with Stewart.

The purpose of this extreme Fit to Fat to Fit experiment is help Peterson understand and empathize with the various challenges that come along with losing weight for someone who is overweight. And also for his client Stewart to see that Peterson is willing to damage his physical and emotional health just to motivate him.

Some of the health issues that Peterson was in danger of having from the rapid weight gain was cholesterol going off the charts, prediabetes, and clinical obesity. During workouts, Peterson holds this over Stewart’s head whenever he begins to falter during exercise routines.

During the process of training, Peterson is able to understand that it isn’t so easy to get fit after gaining so much weight. In an ABC News clip, he’s seen collapsing during an exercise and being utterly disappointed with himself because he recalls being able to do that same workout without any issues in the past.

Because of all the junk food Peterson ate on a daily basis to gain 60 pounds in a 120 day span, he had to be monitored closely by doctors.

When Nightline asked Peterson about any potential long term health affects his extreme Fit to Fat to Fit experiment may have caused, he said “Oh man I don’t know besides the few stretch marks I have on my hips that’s the only thing that i’m still carrying from this little adventure.”
