In a recent interview with Bloomberg, Kevin Feige, Marvel Studio President, explained how the Disney+ Marvel shows would affect the Marvel Cinematic Universe. “If you want to understand everything in future Marvel movies, he says, you’ll probably need a Disney+ subscription, because events from the new shows will factor into forthcoming films such as Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. The Scarlet Witch will be a key character in that movie.” Feige went on to note, for the first time, that Loki will tie into the MCU as well.
Fans have had reason to believe that the upcoming Marvel shows would tie into the MCU since April. In an interview with Variety, Feige hinted this about characters in the forthcoming shows, “They’ll be changing, evolving, growing in those event series and then those changes will be reflected in their next film appearances.” During San Diego Comic-Con, Feige first mentioned that the Scarlet Witch would be in the next Doctor Strange installment.
Marvel has tried to connect their shows with the MCU before. Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D followed Phil Coulson, in his adventures after supposedly dying in The Avengers. As the first Marvel TV show, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D had big shoes to fill. The first season directly connected with Captain America: Winter Soldier and the rise of Hydra. Coulson and his ragtag team had to deal with the aftermath of Hydra the Tuesday after the film came out. Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) and Maria Hill (Cobie Smulders) have made appearances in the show as well. Over the years, there have been slight mentions of the MCU in the rest of the Marvel shows. Yet, a show has never had a direct influence on the storyline for the MCU.
WandaVision and Loki will be released on the Disney+ app in the Spring of 2021.
