Fans Start Petition for Deadpool To Host ‘Saturday Night Live’

Deadpool hit theaters on Feb. 12, just in time for Valentine’s Day. And fans have lost their minds.

The film shattered several box office records and raked in an estimated $150 million in its first weekend in theaters. For more information on how Deadpool has done in the box-offices, mxdwn has the story here.

In the weeks leading up to Deadpool, the PR was excellent. Fans have been wanting a Deadpool film ever since Ryan Reynolds appeared as Wade Wilson (aka Deadpool) in X-Men Origins: Wolverine. The hype leading up to the film’s release probably helped with the box office numbers, but now that the film is out, the hype hasn’t died down. Fans can’t get enough Deadpool. They want more.

Now there is a petition to get Deadpool to host Saturday Night Live. By Deadpool I don’t mean Ryan Reynolds, I mean the character Deadpool. A fan was so excited about the recent Deadpool film and loved the character so much that he created a change.com page where you can add your name to a petition to get Deadpool to host SNL. Andrew Stege who started the petition addresses the letter to Lorne Michaels, Ryan Reynolds, and NBC. In his letter, Stege writes, “We’ve all seen the trailers, the magazine covers, the viral videos, and the billboards by now, so what’s left for Deadpool (Ryan Reynolds) to do?”

Apparently asking for a sequel is not on this fan’s radar. The petition currently has over 72,000 signatures with a goal of 75,000.

While there has been no response from anyone at SNL, Deadpool has already responded. Since learning about the petition, Reynolds made and uploaded a video (really it’s an audio clip) to YouTube titled “Why Deadpool won’t be hosting ‘SNL.'” In the audio, we hear Reynolds in character as Deadpool spoofing the leaked audio of Kanye West’s backstage meltdown during last week’s SNL show with Melissa McCarthy as the host.

In the original audio of Kanye West, the rapper blasts Taylor Swift and calls himself more influential than any other person, alive or dead. In the Deadpool spoof, Reynolds instead blasts Rip Taylor and calls himself more influential The Muppets, shredded cheese, and the iPhone 5. Check out the parody below. (It’s worth it.)

So what does it all mean? Well, Reynold/Deadpool’s response is a little vague, but anything could happen. The YouTube video may be titled “Why Deadpool won’t be hosting ‘SNL,'” but let’s be honest, it really shows every reason why he should host the show.
