‘Euphoria’ Season Three Reportedly Features Time Jump

According to ComicBook, a recent report appears to confirm speculation about a time leap in the upcoming season of Euphoria. The acclaimed HBO series, created by Sam Levinson (The Idol, Malcolm & Marie), has faced delays for its third season due to last year’s strikes involving both writers and actors, leaving eager fans eagerly anticipating the return of their beloved characters. Multiple sources have suggested that Euphoria Season three will advance the storyline to after high school, aligning with the mature themes of drugs and sexuality that characterize the show. It seems the series is indeed moving in that direction.

As per TheWrap via ComicBook, HBO has granted showrunner Sam Levinson the creative freedom to transition Euphoria from its high school backdrop to an adult setting. Recent reports indicated that filming for the series was set to commence in the upcoming months, but HBO subsequently informed the cast of a delay, granting them the flexibility to explore other acting opportunities in the interim.

Earlier in January, Jacob Elordi (Saltburn, Priscilla), known for his role as Nate Jacobs in Euphoria, expressed uncertainty regarding the show’s return. “I don’t know, do you know?” Elordi asked during his appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.

“I hope it’s soon, or they’re going to have to Benjamin Button me or something,” Elordi said, joking, “I’m going to have a bad back walking down the hallway, you know? …I’m assuming that we’ll have to go forward, otherwise it’s going to seem like a weird bit.”

Sydney Sweeney hints at what’s to come in Euphoria Season three.

Sydney Sweeney’s (Immaculate, Anyone But You)  popularity as an actress has soared beyond her role in Euphoria, with her latest venture, the edgy comedy Anyone But You, achieving success at the box office. Rumors of a sequel to Anyone But You are circulating, indicating its enduring appeal. Sweeney, known for portraying Cassie Howard, has heightened anticipation for Euphoria Season three, promising surprises that will astonish fans, especially considering the show’s evolving trajectory.

“People will be really amazed with what Season three becomes,” Sweeney said to GQ. “I think that’s good because Seasons one and two were so different.”

What does Euphoria Season three entail?

Plot specifics regarding the forthcoming third season of Euphoria remain undisclosed. Initially slated to commence production in June 2023, complications arose due to the Hollywood writers and actors strikes. Reports suggest the series might leap forward in time by five years.

“[Sam is] a person who writes and rewrites and writes and rewrites again, because I think he’s wrestling with what’s important,” Colman Domingo (Rustin, The Color Purple), who plays Ali Muhammed in Euphoria, said in an interview earlier this month. “He’s responding immediately to what the ills of the world are. I know that the one thing I can tell you is that he’s very much interested in the existential question of who we are right now. Our souls. That’s what he wants to figure out with season three.”
