Ramy Youssef Searches For His “First” Superlative On ‘SNL’ Promo

Ramy Youssef (Poor Things) is ecstatic to be hosting Saturday Night Live this upcoming Saturday, March 30th. In the latest promotional video, he exclaims both his excitement and his superlatives in hopes of being one of the “firsts” on the sketch show. Sadly, according to Deadline, the star’s dreams may be crushed as he takes the stage.

The actor in the promotional video excitedly exclaims to the audience, “My name is Ramy Youssef, and I am honored to be the first Arab host of Saturday Night Live.” quickly, after exclaiming this, Youssef is corrected by cast member Kenan Thompson (True Burger, All That). “I’m sorry to interrupt,” says Thomspon, cautiously approaching Youssef, “but you’re actually not the first to host.”

Youssef, after getting slightly flustered by the correction, thanks Thompson for the feedback, and then attempts to redeem himself by going down the list of potential “firsts” he may be in hosting the sketch show. Unfortunately, with each suggestion, Thompson is quick to correct him on his slight inaccuracies.

“I’m thrilled to be the first ever Egyptian host of Saturday Night Live.” was met with a quick correction as he is not the first Egyptian host of SNL. Youssef then tries to get more specific with his superlative by stating “I’m thrilled to be the first-ever host named Ramy to host SNL.” which, although niche, was met with a correcting comment as Rami Malek, the Egyptian actor who previously hosted SNL.

After getting corrected several times, Youssef then goes into a small monologue about how important inclusivity and diversity are to the show. After that emotional moment, he then makes one last attempt to become a “first” by shouting out his home state New Jersey as part of his superlative.

Saturday Night Live is airing this Saturday, March 30th at 11:30 pm EST with Ramy Youssef as host and Travis Scott as the musical guest. Watch the promo video below!
