Emmys 2026 Nominations: ‘The Pitt,’ ‘Pluribus,’ ‘Hacks’ And More Compete For Top Awards

The nominations for the 78th annual Primetime Emmy Awards were revealed today at the Television Academy’s Wolf Theatre in Los Angeles, California. Television Academy Chair Cris Abrego was joined by recent Emmy winners Liza Colón-Zayas (The Bear) and Jeff Hiller (Somebody Somewhere) to announce the nominees in the lead acting and Outstanding Drama, Comedy, and Limited or Anthology Series categories. HBO Max’s The Pitt led all programs with 25 nominations, while Hacks followed with 24, setting a new record for the most nominations for a comedy series in a single year. Apple TV’s Widow’s Bay and Pluribus followed with 19 and 18 nominations, respectively, while Netflix’s Beef earned 16.

This year’s nominations recognized a mix of established television stars and first-time nominees. Steve Carell (The Office, The Big Short) earned an Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series nomination for Rooster, while Lisa Kudrow (Friends, The Comeback) returned to the Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series race for The Comeback. The nominees also include 28 first-time performer nominees, with The Pitt stars Taylor Dearden (Breaking Bad, For All Mankind), Brittany Allen (What Keeps You Alive, The Boys), Tal Anderson (Atypical, As We See It), Patrick Ball (ReEntry, Law & Order), Fiona Dourif (The Blacklist, When We Rise), Ernest Harden Jr. (All That She Knew, Bonded), Gerran Howell (Catch-22, 1917), Tina Ivlev (Shameless, Star Trek: Khan), Jeff Kober (Sully, The Walking Dead) and Sepideh Moafi (Black Bird, The Killing of Two Lovers) among the newcomers recognized.

In the limited series category, Netflix’s Beef led the category with 16 total nominations, followed by HBO Max’s DTF St. Louis with 13 and Netflix’s The Beast in Me with nine. The Outstanding Limited or Anthology Series category also includes Peacock’s All Her Fault and Hulu’s Love Story: John F. Kennedy Jr. & Carolyn Bessette. Carey Mulligan (Promising Young Woman, Maestro) and Oscar Isaac (Ex Machina, Moon Knight) earned lead acting nominations for Beef, while Claire Danes (Homeland, Fleishman Is in Trouble) and Matthew Rhys (The Americans, Perry Mason) were recognized for The Beast in Me. Other nominees include Sarah Snook (Succession, Predestination) for All Her Fault, Sarah Pidgeon (The Wilds, Tiny Beautiful Things) for Love Story: John F. Kennedy Jr. & Carolyn Bessette, and Charlie Hunnam (Sons of Anarchy, The Gentlemen) for Monster: The Ed Gein Story.

In the drama category, The Pitt dominated with 25 nominations, including three individual nominations for Noah Wyle (ER, The Librarians) for acting, directing and producing. Apple TV’s Pluribus followed in the drama category with 18 nominations, while A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms and Slow Horses each received nine. Wyle will compete in Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series against Sterling K. Brown (This Is Us, American Fiction) for Paradise, Gary Oldman (Darkest Hour, Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy) for Slow Horses, Mark Ruffalo (Spotlight, Poor Things) for Task, and Rufus Sewell (The Holiday, The Man in the High Castle) for The Diplomat.

On the comedy side, Hacks led the category with 24 nominations, surpassing the previous single-year comedy record of 23 nominations shared by The Studio in 2025 and The Bear in 2024. Widow’s Bay followed with 19 nominations, while Shrinking earned nine and Margo’s Got Money Troubles and The Bear each received eight. Jean Smart (Frasier, Designing Women) returns to the Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series category for Hacks, competing against Quinta Brunson (Abbott Elementary, A Black Lady Sketch Show), Ayo Edebiri (The Bear, Opus), Elle Fanning (The Great, A Complete Unknown) and Lisa Kudrow. The Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series race includes Yahya Abdul-Mateen II (Watchmen, Aquaman) for Wonder Man, Steve Carell for Rooster, Matthew Rhys for Widow’s Bay, Jason Segel (Forgetting Sarah Marshall, Freaks and Geeks) for Shrinking, and Martin Short (Jungle 2 Jungle, Father of the Bride) for Only Murders in the Building.

Several performers also received multiple nominations across acting, writing, directing and producing categories. Jason Bateman (Ozark, Arrested Development) earned four nominations for his work across Black Rabbit and DTF St. Louis. Quinta Brunson, Paul W. Downs (Hacks, Broad City), Matthew Rhys, Jason Segel, Martin Short and Noah Wyle each received three nominations across multiple disciplines.

The 78th annual Primetime Emmy Awards, hosted by Mariska Hargitay (Law & Order: Special Victims Unit), will air live coast-to-coast on Monday, September 14, at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT on NBC and stream on Peacock. The ceremony will take place at the Peacock Theater at L.A. LIVE.
