‘Doctor Who’s’ Tom Baker Joining Star Wars TV Series

According to Metro, fans of the BBC Classic Doctor Who got an extra surprise on Saturday while attending a Star Wars Celebration in London when it was announced that the Fourth Doctor, Tom Baker, would be voicing a character on a new Star Wars animated series.

The news of Baker’s new role was announced to thousands during the convention before airing a trailer for Baker will be lending his voice to a pivotal character in the upcoming series Star Wars: Rebels.

As the Fourth Doctor, Baker played the time-traveler from 1974 to 1981— while simultaneously helping to make the Doctor Who world a huge success.

Baker will be playing the voice of Bendu, who is neither good or bad. Bendu is described as being the ‘middle way of the Force’.

The trailer that premiered showcases Baker’s voice near the end of the Star Wars: Revenge  trailer.

This isn’t the first time showrunner Dave Filoni has recruited a Doctor Who actor to voice one of his characters. Filoni pulled Tenth Doctor David Tennant into playing the voice of a character in Star Wars: The Clone Wars back in 2012. Tennant was so good in fact that he won an Emmy for his role.

At the convention in Europe, fans were given the first two episodes of season three, which included more Baker than just the trailer.

But the addition of Baker to the series isn’t the only thing Star Wars fans have to look forward to.  The new season promises the return of The Phantom Menace’s Darth Maul and the introduction of the Grand Admiral Thrawn.

Thrawn, who originally appeared in the sequel to Heir To The Empire was the role many fans loved to hate.

Actor Lars Mikkelsen will be voicing Thrawn in Rebels. Mikkelsen is known for playing roles in many shows, including: The Killing, House of Cards, Sherlock and many more.

Star Wars must run in the Mikkelsen family because Lars brother Mads will be starring in the stand alone Star Wars movie Rogue One.

You can catch the new season of Star Wars: Rebels later this year on Disney XD.
