Doctor Who Star Comes to Pemberley

Doctor Who companion Jenna-Louise Coleman will be traveling back in time in a different manner on the BBC: she has been cast in a central role in the network’s Death Comes to Pemberley miniseries.

The project is a sequel to Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice, based on a novel by P.D. James. Elizabeth Bennet and Mr. Darcy have been married for six years when their peaceful lives are interrupted by the arrival of Elizabeth’s sister Lydia and the beginnings of a murder investigation.

Coleman will play Lydia Bennet in the miniseries, sister to Elizabeth (Anna Maxwell Martin) and wife to George Wickham (Matthew Goode). Matthew Rhys will step into the iconic role of Mr. Darcy, as previously reported.

Other recent additions to the cast include Trevor Eve, James Fleet, Rebecca Front, Penelope Keith, James Norton, Joanna Scanlan, Eleanor Tomlinson and Tom Ward, according to the Hollywood Reporter. Filming is slated to begin later this month, and the series will air in late 2013 to coincide with the 200th anniversary of Austen’s novel.
