Disney+ Releases New Trailer For ‘Andor’ And Announces New Release Date

Disney+ has released a new trailer for their upcoming Star Wars spinoff series Andor, based around Diego Luna’s (Narcos: Mexico) character, Cassian Andor, from Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. The streaming service also announced a new release date of September 21st for the show’s debut after it was previously announced that the series would release on August 31st, but Disney+ will now release three episodes to start the season.

The series will center around Andor during the early days of the rebel alliance against the galactic empire, as Deadline noted. It will take place years before the events of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.

Luna debuted the new trailer for Andor on Good Morning America on Monday and discussed what fans can expect from the upcoming series.

“It’s quite unique, because we know what Cassian is capable of, but we’re going to meet him when he doesn’t know he’s capable of that,” Luna said, per Variety. “We’re going to meet him when life is tough, it’s a very dark and interesting life because it’s just a regular guy that suddenly has to become part of something bigger, has to become part of a community that rises. It’s the beginning of the origins of a revolution, and it’s a beautiful story because it reminds us what we are capable of, what we are all capable of. There’s no Jedis around, it’s people having to take control.”

The cast starring in Andor alongside Luna includes Adria Arjona (Morbius), Denise Gough (Monday), Genevieve O’Reilly (The Secret), Stellan Skarsgård (Dune), Fiona Shaw (Killing Eve), and Kyle Soller (The Keeping Room). The trailer also revealed that Forest Whitaker (The Butler) will be reprising his role from Rogue One: A Star Wars Story as Saw Gerrera.

The series is being created by Tony Gilroy (The Bourne Legacy) and will have episodes directed by Tony Haynes (Black Mirror), who will serve as lead director, Ben Caron (The Crown), and Susanna White (Parade’s End).
