Disney+ New Marvel Series ‘The Falcon And The Winter Soldier’ Explores The Origin Of Villain Helmut Zemo

Marvel’s latest series on Disney+, The Falcon And The Winter Soldier focuses on Avengers Sam Wilson with Bucky Barnes and their role outside of the superhero alliance, but the series will also explore the origin story of Helmut Zemo. The series will not only dive deep into hero Bucky’s state of mind, but also Zemo’s as we uncover the layers that make super villain, according to Comicbook.com

Zemo’s first appearance in the MCU came in the film Captain America: Civil War. Although his origins were mentioned they were never explicitly explored. The Falcon And The Winter Soldier series writer Malcolm Spellman talked with Comicbook.com to tell them just how the new series will feature the rise of super villain Zemo.

[“It’s all front and center,” Spellman says of Zemo’s evolution in the Disney+ series. “And it’s funny because as we did different iterations of this, all the stuff you’re talking about, who Zemo is, what he did in his past for his country, where that mask came from, all just became tangled into one personal storyline of a man whose country, city, and family were destroyed by superheroes who he views as villains, right?”] – via Comicbook.com.

From Captain America: Civil War Daniel Brühl reprises his role of the famed villain, Zemo. The series takes place after his first attempt to dismantle the Avengers fails in the Captian America: Civil War film. Viewers never got to see the full Zemo costume in theaters but The Falcon And The Winter Soldier will feature the super villain in all his glory. Donning a purple mask and an army of followers the series will depict Zemo from the comics. From the trailers the series be full of action packed battling between Zemo’s henchmen the two Avengers members.

In the MCU, Zemo lost his family and his whole life in the catastrophe that took place in Sokovia. Watching Ultron, a Tony Stark creation rip everything away from him and attempt to destroy humanity turned him to hate the Avengers. The Avengers thwarted the evil robot’s ultimate plan but not without changing the lives of so many Sokovian citizens.

[“Zemo believes he’s a hero in this series,” Spellman says. “All of that is tethered to something very, very personal for him and I got to say, man, Daniel Brühl, like, you know Sebastian [Stan] and Anthony [Mackie] can take everything out of the park but Daniel Brühl was like I’m going to steal every scene I’m in if I can. He was great.”] – via Comicbook.com.

Leading up to the premiere the series was featured first in Super Bowl spot earlier this year before the final trailer dropped just earlier this week. The Falcon And The Winter Soldier premieres today with the first episode is available now on Disney+.
