Disney+ and Marvel’s ‘Ironheart’ To Begin Writing 6 Episode First Season

Another upcoming Marvel Studios addition to Disney+ is in the preparation stage for writing its first season. Ironheart, a future Phase four television series for the MCU, will have a first season consisting of six episodes and the writing for this first season will kick off in May 2021, according to Screen Rant. First announced during the Disney Investor Call in December 2020, the series will introduce a new Marvel comic book character in Riri Williams to the MCU. The writing process for the series will be led by poet Chinaka Hodge (Dated Emcees) as announced in April.

Ironheart will center on the comic book character Riri Williams who moonlights as the titular superheroine. First introduced into comic book lore in 2016, the character is a teenage engineering student in Chicago, Illinois who recently gained admission into MIT. During her time at school, Williams was capable of crafting a near replica of Iron Man’s suit and armor after stealing materials and technology from labs at her university. Following her exit from the university, Williams sets out to be the next big superheroine and begins her journey back at her home in Chicago. It is unknown whether the series will take on this same character background as the one depicted within the comic books. However, it has been previously announced that Dominique Thorne (Judas and the Black Messiah) will portray the lead character in the upcoming streaming series for Disney+.

Currently, the series does not have an expected premiere date for the streaming service. However, given Williams’ background of accessing public technology to create her own armor and suits, there has been speculation regarding its connection to another upcoming MCU series Armor Wars which follows Don Cheadle’s (Black Monday) War Machine attempting to recover stolen Tony Stark technology.
