Despite Immense Backlash Season Two Of ‘Velma’ Is In The Works

Despite the immense backlash that came after the premiere of HBO Max’s original series Velma, there are reports of second season in the works, according to ComicBook. The series has been met with a vast amount of backlash since its premiere on January 12, and despite all that and only currently having two episodes out it has been reported to have another season in the works.

According to ComicBook, on this week’s Entertainment Identifier Registry (EIDR) catalog shows Velma season two to be in the works. The update suggests that season two will include 11 episodes under HBO Max and Warner Bros.  This is rare case as many series throughout streaming services have been originally canceled after being received with such controversy, especially since Velma currently holds a 55 percent critic rating, and a seven percent audience rating on Rotten Tomatoes. The series also currently holds an IMDb rating of 1.5 out of 10.

The series has been under attack on many social media platforms by many fans of new and original Scooby-Doo franchise who did not enjoy the new take. From the adult themed humor to,  characters being different ethnicities, characters being different than many have come to know them over decades of different series, and even with a lack of having the fan favorite mascot Scooby-Doo himself in the series , the series has changed many of the root aspects that fans cared for. Many critical fans have stated that is the worst version of the Scooby-Doo gang as the show ignores what many loved about the franchise and is pilled on by jokes trying to hard to be edgy and grown-up. The series has had many comments stating how the series should be canceled and how horrible of a show it is.

Below are some comments under Tweets from official Velma Twitter that criticize the series.

Velma is a series created by Charlie Grandy (The Office), that follows an all-time favorite crew, the mystery gang, but with an adult theme along with a large change to many of the original characters. The series follows Velma Dinkley as she deals with horrific mysteries while dealing with her own trauma and the mystery of her mother going missing. The show cast includes Mindy Kaling (The Mindy Project), Glenn Howerton (It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia), Sam Richardson (Veep), Constance Wu (Crazy Rich Asians), and many others.

Although the first season has just premiered, critical fans of the series better prepare as there are eight more episodes of season one. The next two episodes, ‘’Velma Kai’, and ‘’Velma Makes a List’’, will air on January 19th.

New episodes of Velma season one will air on HBO Max every Thursday
