Dennis Quaid (The Parent Trap) has been cast in Peacock’s upcoming series, Joe Exotic, alongside the previously announced leads, Kate McKinnon (Ghostbusters), and John Cameron Mitchell (Shortbus), according to Variety. Quaid will play Rick Kirkham while McKinnon will play Carole Baskin and Mitchell will play Joe Exotic.
The series follows the making of the well-received Netflix series released in 2020, Tiger King. Both shows center around Baskin, a big cat enthusiast and zoo owner who learns that Exotic is breeding and using his big cats for profit. As she hopes to shut down his Oklahoma zoo, her own checkered past begins to unveil itself. Overall, the series exposed the widespread mistreatment of animals in both zoos, alongside additional drama behind the scenes. Upon its release in March 2020, the series gained widespread recognition as one of the most-watched shows during the beginning of the pandemic. Quaid’s character, Kirkham, was the journalist behind the reality series, acting as Tiger King‘s producer.
Quaid is most well known for his appearances in films like The Rookie, The Day After Tomorrow, Traffic, Vantage Point, Frequency, The Parent Trap, Soul Surfer, and Breaking Away. In terms of TV, the actor has starred in and produced Netflix’s Merry Happy Whatever, and starred in the third season of Goliath.
