Jame Lee Curtis is killing it on the screen and off. Her most recent appearances in the revitalization of Halloween and 2019’s Knives Out have been great moves in front of the camera, but behind it, she is matching each ambitious move.
Via Variety, Curtis’ production banner, Comet Pictures, alongside media stalwart, Blumhouse Television, has begun developing a new show based on Patricia Cornwall’s famous book character, Kay Scarpetta. The two media companies had finally been able to secure the rights to the character and her franchise, leading to the announcement. The next step is now finding a showrunner to helm the series.
Patricia Cornwall’s Kay Scarpetta is the most popular series of her many which have sold over 120 million copies. The novels follow Scarpetta, a forensic pathologist who has to traverse the sticky crime underworld with a strong intuition and some powerful technology. Cornwall has penned 24 editions of the series with a twenty fifth, Autopsy, coming this fall. With so many books, the showrunners will have plenty to work with.
In an announcement obtained by Variety, the author Cornwall said, “Blumhouse is a creative force of nature, and I’m confident that Scarpetta is going to make it to the screen in a fantastic way. To say I’m thrilled is an understatement.”
Curtis’ Comet Pictures is currently in an overall deal with Blumhouse. Since their creation in 2019, they have dealt with producing television programs, movies, and podcasts.
Curtis and Cornwall will join Blumhouse Television President Chris McCumber, Jason Blum (Get Out), and Jeremy Gold (Sharp Objects) as executive producers on the show.
Fans will have to wait for more information on the show as it is still in the very early stages of production. In the meantime, they will have plenty of time to get going on Scarpetta’s 24 novels.
