‘Dead Boy Detectives’ Premiere Date Revealed By Netflix

According to Deadline, Netflix announced April 25th as the release date for the The Sandman spinoff Dead Boy Detectives. Additionally, they have released new photos to promote the series. The show is based on the Vertigo comics by Neil Gaiman (Good Omens, Sandman) and Matt Wagner (Grendel).

The series was to be original produced by Max, but Warner Bros. Discovery made the decision to move on from the original plan due to the new creative direction of the DCU. New DC executives includes James Gunn (Guardians of the Galaxy, The Suicide Squad) and Peter Safran (Flatliners, Aquaman). Warner Bros. switched directions and are currently developing five shows that are all connected to the Peacemakera series created by Gunn.

According to mxdwn, the series synopsis, via The Hollywood Reporter, is: “Do you have a pesky ghost haunting you? Has a demon stolen your core memories? You may want to ring the Dead Boy Detectives. Meet Edwin Payne and Charles Rowland, ‘the brains’ and ‘the brawn’ behind the Dead Boy Detectives agency. Teenagers born decades apart who find each other only in death, Edwin and Charles are best friends and ghosts … who solve mysteries. They will do anything to stick together — including escaping evil witches, Hell and Death herself. With the help of a clairvoyant named Crystal (Kassius Nelson (White Lines, Hollyoaks) and her friend Niko (Yuyu Kitamura (Expats, Invited In), they are able to crack some of the mortal realm’s most mystifying paranormal cases.”

The series stars George Rexstrew (Findhorn Case 31.08.18) and Jayden Revri (The Lodge, Fate: The Winx Saga). Additional cast members include Ruth Connell (Supernatural, For the Love of George), Brianna Cuoco (Harley Quinn, The Voice), Lukas Gage (Euphoria, The White Lotus), David Iacono (The Summer I Turned Pretty, Cinnamon), and Jenn Lyon (Claws, Crashing).

The series is being developed by Steve Yockey (The Flight Attendant). He is also a co-showrunner with Beth Schwartz (Sweet Tooth). Executive producers include Greg Berlanti (Love, Simon), Sarah Schechter (You), and Jeremy Carver (Being Human).
