David Bowie Approached for ‘Hannibal’ Role

The creator of the Hannibal series has confirmed the series has approached David Bowie to fill the role of Hannibal’s uncle, according to Vulture.

Musician/actor Bowie has starred in several movies that have become cult favorites, perhaps most famously for his portrayal as Jareth, the Goblin King in Jim Henson’s “Labyrinth”. In addition to “Labyrinth”, he has also starred in “the Prestige”, “The Man Who Fell to Earth”, “the Hunger”, and “Merry Christmas Mr. Lawrence”.

In addition to his interest in Bowie, creator Bryan Fuller has mentioned he has his eye on another actor for Hannibal, Chi McBride. Hee would like McBride to play the role of orderly Barney, who works at the Baltimore State Hospital for the criminally insane, according to Indiewire.

Fuller has not given up much information about the upcoming season two of Hannibal, although he has confirmed they will not be taking a lot of story line from the original books, but rather use it as a basis to begin the season and grow from there. He said, “We’re going to see Will Graham institutionalized and what we know from ‘Red Dragon’, the back story that is given, which is very, very thin, explains that Will Graham was so psychologically compromised from investigating the Minnesota case that he had to be institutionalized. And that’s sort of one sentence that we can do quite a bit with,” posted by Indiewire.

Despite the announcement, the creator of the NBC thriller series told E! News that Bowie has not made a decision about the role just yet.
