Famed comedian, Dave Chappelle has tested positive for Covid-19, TMZ reports. Chappelle has also cancelled the rest of his shows in Austin. He performed the first of the five shows, Wednesday night, January 20 but the following scheduled shows for Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday night have all been cancelled.
TMZ reports that rep from Chappelle’s camp has told them that he is currently quarantining himself, since he got the positive results. Chappelle at the time of the positive test results did not display any symptoms, according to TMZ.
Since June, Chappelle has been practicing the CDC’s safety precautions when in public. According to Good Morning America, A Chappelle representative has confirmed the news of his positive test but also that he is asymptomatic. The 47-year-old Emmy winning comedian has been performing and producing his own socially distanced stand up events. Since the summer Chappelle, an Ohio resident, has been performing outdoor shows in Ohio like the one below from his instagram.
According to GMA, he recently moved his production and shows to Austin, TX for the winter. In that same GMA report, representative states “Chappelle implemented COVID-19 protocols which included rapid testing for the audience and daily testing for himself and his team. His diligent testing enabled him to immediately respond by quarantining, thus mitigating the spread of the virus.”
Update: After news broke about Chappelle contracting COVID-19, many blamed Canadian musician Grimes. Earlier this month, It was reported by Vanity Fair that she “finally” tested positive for COVID-19. The partner of tech billionaire Elon Musk and mother of their child, Grimes attended recent Chappelle and Joe Rogan show in Austin. From the picture below posted on instagram, she was in close quarters with both of them. Rogan has tested negative and has given an update to the accusations through a recent instagram post the reads: “because people are asking, I was not exposed to the person who had COVID and I have tested negative every day this week. Also, the person that gave COVID to Dave was NOT Elon’s partner @grimes.” via Instagram.
